Do you know?
Yes its another episode of down your way.
Anyway, starting at Dumplington, which in times past was very scarce of residential abodes and in the present day contains none. The influx of Industry and the approach & bypass roads to and from the large retail "Trafford Centre" has consumed practically all of Dumplington. In fact Dumplington Circle (a road roundabout) as been renamed. So very little of the Dumplington name now exists. There is a cemetery on Old Barton Road situated behind the church, which faces onto Redclyffe Road [B5211] the only 2 roads in Dumplington. Present day directions are head north from the church for about 100 yards and you are on the Barton Swing Bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal and next to the Barton Aqueduct. This is a swing bridge as well but this carries the Bridgewater Canal over the Manchester Ship Canal, previous to 1894 [prior to the MSC being cut] the River Irwell separated Dumplington from Barton upon Irwell. ½ mile north you have Patricroft, 2 miles east you have Eccles, ½ mile west you have Peel green and 3 mile west you have Irlam, another 1 mile you have Cadishead, another ¼ mile you have Hollins Green with Glazebrook ½ mile northwards at this point, continuing west towards Warrington you find Rixton & Woolston then Warrington. The southern part of Barton upon Irwell and all of Dumplington are now in Trafford with the registrar's office in Sale. Eccles, Patricroft, Peel Green, Irlam & Cadishead are in Salford with the registrars office in Salford [old]. The whole of Rixton cum Glazebrook Parish, which encompasses Hollins Green & Woolston, are in Warrington with the registrar's office being in Warrington. Warrington being in Cheshire since 1974 and Lancashire pre 1974. Trafford & Salford are part of the defunct Greater Manchester County. With Salford being made up totally from old Lancashire, and Trafford being made up of old Lancashire and parts of Cheshire. Alan Taylor Feb 2003

Answer to the Christmas Brain Teaser. Just to recap, Two men were looking at a photograph of a person and one said to the other. " Brothers, sisters have I none, that man's father is my father's son" What relation is the person in the photograph?
It was his Son in the photo! Now think about it, the person looking at the photo has no brothers or sisters.
The easy way to understand it, is to assume that you are the father and look at a photo of your son and repeat the words "that man's father (that is the father of the person in the photo) is my father's son"
Who is your father's son? You are, so it's your son in the photo. If you got it right, you may have a sweetie for being a clever clogs. Les Hankinson Feb 2003

1881 Census for Warwick
In my analysis of the 1881 census for Warwick area, there were 92 people who made up 22 family units. The main places were: -
Chilvers Coton with 36 persons living in 8 separate family units, Hartshill with 34 persons living in 9 separate family units. Polesworth with 10 persons living in 2 family units. Atherstone with 3 persons living in 1 family unit. Stockingford with 1 person living in 1 family unit.
This left one family of 6 from Warrington, 1 gentleman from Ireland, and 1 widow from Shropshire.
I feel sure there must be a very strong link between all these families and hope some one will take up the challenge to join them! Les Hankinson Feb 2003
